Cirrus updates SR series for 2020 with new smartphone app

Cirrus has overhauled its SR models for 2020, creating the “most technologically advanced” iterations of the SR20, SR 22 and SR22T to date.

Chief among the upgrades is the new Cirrus Aircraft App for the iPhone, which allows the pilot to communicate with the aircraft. The system lets pilots remotely access important pre-flight data including fuel levels, aircraft location and flight hours.

In a similar vein, Cirrus has introduced an update to the glass cockpit to improve safety. The system now has a stabilized approach advisory system, which alerts the pilot of unstable conditions during an approach.

Cirrus says the new G6 SR series is the most advanced iteration yet.

But the changes aren’t all so high-tech. A new colour palette beckons, enticing pilots with some bright new hues and an “aggressive accent line” on the skin. The interior gets an upgrade, too, with bigger accessory pockets and new decorative stitching on the seats.

And for those buying a new SR22T, an all-new four-blade Hartzell propeller is now available. Made from carbon fibre and boasting nickel leading edge protection, Cirrus says the new prop adds “unmistakable ramp presence”.

“The SR Series has been the world’s best-selling high performance single-engine piston aircraft for seventeen consecutive years,” said Zean Nielsen, CEO of Cirrus Aircraft. “That success doesn’t stop our team from pursuing relentless innovation. The addition of the Cirrus Aircraft App is a bold new step towards a fully connected aircraft and we’re proud to be leading the way once again.”
