New Gulfstream G700 business jet makes its maiden flight

Gulfstream‘s new G700 business jet has taken to the skies for the first time since it was unveiled at the end of last year.

The new jet, which boasts the “longest, widest and tallest cabin” on the market, has previously only taxied under its own power. In April, though, the aircraft took off from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport in Georgia, USA, and returned more than two-and-a-half hours later.

The G700 first flew from Gulfstream’s home airfield in Georgia, USA.

Powered by two Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, the aircraft can travel 6,400 nautical miles at Mach 0.9, or 7,500nm at Mach 0.85. The plane comes with 20 “panoramic” oval windows and an “ultragalley” with more than 10 feet of counter space.

“The G700’s first flight is a momentous occasion and the next step forward in Gulfstream’s vision for the future, a vision that has been guided by the strategic leadership of our parent company, General Dynamics, and the innovation of the Gulfstream team,” said Mark Burns, the president of Gulfstream. “As the market leader, Gulfstream is moving the entire business jet industry forward with advanced safety features, tomorrow’s technology and a cabin purposefully designed to exceed our customers’ expectations for comfort.”
